Last week, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said his company will soon roll out a new update to its autopilot software.
“Looks like we might be ready to rollout most of Autopilot functionality for HW2 towards the end of next week–” Elon Musk
Tesla’s update comes on the heels of various reports that its self driving software may have caused car crashes across the globe.
Fatal Tesla Autopilot Crash in China
In January 2016, a Tesla autopilot car smashed into a street sweeping truck, killing the car’s 23 year old passenger. The man’s family later sued Tesla for wrongful death.
Tesla Crash in Florida
The first Tesla autopilot crash fatality in the United States happened in Florida on May 7, 2016. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has since launched a formal evaluation in Tesla’s autopilot system.
Tesla Autopilot Error in Texas
In Dallas on August 7, 2016, a Tesla customer claims his Model S crashed in autopilot mode. The crash reports says the Tesla veered from its lane and crashed into a guard rail.
Montana Tesla Autopilot Crash
A Tesla in autopilot mode crashed in Montana on July 9, 2016. The driver of the Tesla SUV claims the car drove off the road, totaling the front passenger side and tearing the wheel off.
